He tries to find her, Sam tries to find Jonah and Annie tries to find Sam. And of course, in the end, they all find each other. Well, are you ready to be sleepless after watching it tonight? 1、The main plot: 8-year old Jonah Baldwin misses his mother, who died from cancer eighteen months ago. More than that, however, he recognizes that his father, Sam, is desperately lonely. So, on Christmas Eve, Jonah calls a radio talk-show to ask for help. Forced onto the phone by his son and identified as "Sleepless in Seattle", Sam reluctantly opens up and talks about his love for his dead wife and the things that made her special. Across the country in Baltimore, Annie Reed is listening to the syndicated program, and Sam's testimonial of love brings tears to her eyes. Even though she is engaged to Walter, Annie begins to wonder what it would be like to meet Sam. She even becomes one of thousands to write a letter to him. But, when circumstances make an assignation possible, the question is whether either Sam or Annie will have the courage to follow through with it. 2、This is a romantic comedy. A movie romance usually goes something like this. Boy meets girl. We can plainly see they are made for each other but there is some plot contrivance to keep them apart. Sleepless in Seattle varies those by delaying the meeting to the last scene of the movie. And there is just a brief encounter in the middle of the film. Sleepless in Seattle could have done something highly unusual if the leading man and lady didn't get to see each other until the last scene. It's a pity that the director blew this opportunity in Sleepless in Seattle but it's a good movie regardless. More often than not, as is the case in Sleepless, this is an indication that the characters have been well-defined and deftly portrayed. Though it is a comedy, the accent is more on romance than humor. Comic moments are kept to a minimum, and there are only a couple of openly funny scenes. But this film is still enjoyable on its own feather light terms. 3、About actors and actress: Tom Hanks, who is frequently chosen for parts with energy, does an excellent job in this movie. Hanks' heartfelt performance, combined with an intelligent script, avoid that common trap. We are given a man we can accept and whose grief we can sympathize with. Meg Ryan has a less challenging role, and, compared to what she did in other movies, there's nothing noteworthy about Annie. The character of Walter, although nicely essayed by Bill Pullman, is superfluous. As the movie progresses, he becomes a hindrance. Then there's Annie's family. Their quirkiness, in a dinner sequence early in the movie, is far more irritating than endearing.
